National California Strawberry Day 🍓☀️ — Fresh, Juicy & Sweet Recipe Inspiration
National California Strawberry Day is celebrated every year on March 21st, in honor of one of the most beloved and popular fruits in the world. California is the largest producer of strawberries in the United States, and this day serves as a way to recognize and celebrate the important role this state plays in providing this delicious and nutritious fruit to people around the world.
The history of strawberries in California can be traced back to the 18th century, when Spanish explorers brought the fruit to the region. However, it wasn't until the 20th century that the strawberry industry in California really took off. Today, California produces over 1 billion pounds of strawberries each year, accounting for more than 80% of the nation's strawberry crop.
Strawberries are not only delicious but they are also packed with important nutrients and health benefits. They are a great source of vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants, and studies have shown that eating strawberries can help reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, and other chronic illnesses. In addition to their nutritional benefits, strawberries are also versatile and can be used in a wide range of dishes, from salads and smoothies to cakes and desserts.
To celebrate National California Strawberry Day, people all over the state (and the country) come together to enjoy this delicious fruit. Many restaurants offer special strawberry-themed dishes and desserts, and farmers' markets and grocery stores often feature special sales and promotions on strawberries. Some people even organize their own strawberry-themed parties, with activities like strawberry picking, strawberry shortcake making, and strawberry-themed crafts.

❓ National California Strawberry Day FAQ
How do I pick the best strawberries? Choose berries that are deep red all the way to the stem with fresh green caps; they won’t ripen further after harvest.
Can I make the drink ahead? Mix the strawberry–basil–lemon base up to 24 hours in advance and keep chilled. Add ice and sparkling water just before serving.
No basil on hand? Mint is great; rosemary is nice for a woodsy vibe. Start small and adjust to taste.
How sweet should it be? California berries vary by season. Start with 1 tbsp syrup/honey, then taste and add more as needed.
How do I scale for a party? For 8 servings: 4 cups strawberries, 1/2 cup lemon juice, 1/3–1/2 cup syrup, 1 cup basil leaves loosely packed, and 4 cups sparkling water. Add 1 to 1 1/2 cups vodka/rum if desired.
